Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trans Swap

I have access to a 2001 3/4 ram cummmins 5 speed. entire vehicle wrecked.



Wondering what the gotcha's would be taking out my A618/47re and putting in the 5 speed.



- pedals

- shifter linkage

- computer

- same harness?

- drive shafts same lengths front and rear?

People have done it, especially before the Performance transmission places got up and running. Maybe someone will post a link to some of the threads for that switch. I know I've read them in the past.

From what I've heard if you do go with the 5spd that some of them had the fifth gear nut come loose or all the way off of them you might want to check that out before you install it

I did it! Piece of cake I didn't have a donor truck, I just collected all the parts so it should be easier for you. I went with a NV5600 but should be close to the same mods.

-maybe driveshaft mods



I never changed computers or harnesses and the truck runs fine! I did however lose my cruise control because the speed sensor is in the auto. I'm trying to figure out a cure for this problem now. I have 4 or 5 codes show up but they are all auto related and have NO effect on how it runs. Let me know if you have any more Q's!
