Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) trans temp gauge sender

Is it ok to just remove the DC sender, and put the IssPro unit in the out/hot line on the transmission? Or should I tee it and keep the oem as an "idiot" light???? Looking for input, all "IMHO" type replies welcomed. Thanks guys, Don.

I would tee it. I know the transmission needs the factory temp sensor to operate properly. I had one go bad and the transmission wouldn't shift into OD.

Like Curtis said, you need the DC sender.

On a '94-'95 RH transmission though it's even easier, put your sender in the center test port, passenger side of the trans. It's 1/8 pipe thread, same as most senders. This will be the same temp as the output line to the cooler according to Bill K.

Doesn't apply to later model RE transmissions.

Hey guys, thanx for the replies. Illflem, I don`t have a service manual, do you have an illustration of what/where it is? Something like the Pyro illustration you posted previously? That was very helpful. Also, which of the Montana schools are you hooked up with ? Thanx again to you and Curt. Don.

Don, sorry I don't have any transmission pics. The test port is easy to find, there are three on the pass side, they are 1/8'' and have hex heads, you want the middle one. If you crawl under there you won't miss them.



I'm with Montana State University but rarely visit the campus, it's 250 miles from Ag research station that I manage.
