Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Trans Temp....going up.

I know there's a chart somewhere giving a basic idea of what avg. temp does to transmission life, but I think that means while driving and I can't find it anyways.



My transmission stays around 125*F or so, while driving. But when I sit for a while whether its in Park, or Drive, or Neutral... temps slowly rise, which is normal.

Just wondering what the assumed "safe" temperature was. Or how high some of your trannies have gotten.

175 deg. optimal temp (100K life expectancy, way too long for my tastes).

195 okay, but cuts fluid life by 1/2, 50K change interval

220 oil viscosity begins breakdown (syn. fluids maybe plus, plus here) 20K change interval.



240-315 progressively bad things begin to happen that will lead to complete failure.



Its a good idea to double ck. your sending unit and gauge accuracy with an infrared non-contact thermometer for relative temp associations.



250 deg. F seems to be a common pull over and cool it down temp, if gauge temp sending unit is located in the pan.

My sender is located in the hot line, I've seen it hit right around 240* if I'm backing a trailer up, etc. On the highway though, or once the torque convertor is locked up, it will stay around 140*

My sender is in the hot line also, i see 140 on the highway and 180 in traffic. It has gotten a lot hotter when i am "playing"
