Ok so it's been a year since I recall what my trans temp guage normally reads when it's 85-90 degrees outside. My wife and I ran some errands around town today, first time we've drive our truck since it was cold. Anyhow through most of the winter and spring my trucks trans temp guage reads around 130-150 +/- favoring below the 150 mark. It only reads higher when I driver er a little harder :-laf since my bride was with me today I stayed below 2 grand per se and casually took er real easy. I noticed that in much of the city driving we were doing I was pushing and got a little over 180? I can't for the life of me recall if this is normal or not? it was about 90 degrees today in nor cal.

Here in Las Vegas during the summer I watch my transmission temperature very closely while doing stop and go. I've seen transmission temperatures reach 210 in stop and go when the outside temperature is over 100 degrees. 180 is not uncommon for 90 degree temperatures.

There are some good threads that have been written about how the oil starts to fail and at what temperatures..... that's what I'd want to know with an automatic..... All my trucks are sticks... . but as I remember, and I'm sure someone will correct me..... above 210 or so the oil starts to fail with a complete failure at around 275 or 285 as I remember... .

this 06 of mine is running so much hotter than my 96 auto did. Im guessing 20 or more deg hotter>Mabey because the 96 had the same gauge and sender but sender in the pan and the 06 has an accutemp clamped to the line? (now im thinking i need a ground strap to the sender base??) faulty reading with resistance?

DBentley: I found the same with my '06 with clamp on temp sender on the line vs. my '98 with probe in pan. I'm now pulling the 11K 5th wheel across country and find that temp climbs on long uphill runs but by backing off and keeping TC locked up, I can keep it below 190* Man I love having the dash mount gauges, and I love this '06 for towing.
