so driving about 60 today in 100 degree weather, my trans temp was seeing 190-197. isnt that kinda high? my Edge was telling me the temp. i know it uses the stock temp sender in the trans. does it just read high or is that kind on temp normal. not towing anything but the wife and me. thoughts?

A little high if it can be believed. Reading off the factory sensor with any of the boxes that monitor temps always seeks to be 20-30 degrees higher than what a real gauge reads. :)

On my 06 I removed the check ball in the trans line which dropped the temp (measured on the output line) 20 degrees.

The ball is Dodge's bs way of preventing drainback of atf while the vehicle is not running. They were getting complaints from owners that their trucks would be sluggish if they immediatly tried to drive once they started the engine. So they put this one way ball valve in the trans line which becomes a major flow obstruction if it works at all. Many transmissions have failed due to this including my first on my 96. That's when I became aquainted with this pos engineered ball. If you decide to remove it you will be amazed at what a restriction point it is in the cooler line. My neighbor with 40 yrs of auto repair under his belt also lost his trans on a 01 dodge and guess what, there was no flow through that little valve which caused the failure. Hope this was helpful. If you do remove it, just put the trans in neutral for 10-30 seconds once you start the truck and you'll never have trouble regarding this ball valve.

I've got the line from Diesel Manor which replaces a peice of the line near the transmission. It is not where the check ball is however. The piece of line where the ball is located is on the drivers side front under the intercooler pipe. It's about one foot long. It will unscrew on one side and has a quick disconnect on the front end. Remove the line, then progressively enlarge the brass fitting kwith a drill until compressed air placed on the other end of the line blows out the rubber ball. Then use a pick and remove the seat and spring. Clean it well, reinstall and never worry about it again.
