Sure Bob,i will fit you in, it seems we are giving an informal seminar, and Stefan is working on a little something for you guys that want to check out your Drag racing skills.

Just curious, is the location bad or was there something else wrong, I can't tell from the pictures. I have seen quite a few trucks with the sensor installed in the forward most port on the passenger side on a rounded surface.

Dave D,
As you can see, the sensor is sticking into the bore. There is an accumulator (piston) that has to move up and down in there!
Good pic Bill!

Bill, I'll be there too. It sounds as if Mopar-muscle will be joining us as well.

Those pics remind me of what my Junior High Scool wood shop teacher once told the class: "No project is completely worthless, it can always be used as a bad example. " #ad

..... another good reason to change to the ATF cooler line with the integral temp. sensor port.

Bill, DRAG racing, you didn't say anything about drag racing. How long does it take to drive to Canada from here, hmmm... ... ... .....

I have to get even for Phoenix. Let's see, DD2's, a new trick box.

Bill,
What about those of us with a '95 auto that actually uses the temp port on the cooler line for actuating the overdrive? Is our only option to build a "T" shaped adapter for the 1/4" NPT fitting on the cooler line so that we can place a temp sensor there?

Iceman

That probe was from Terry's truck, that is the first sensor i have actually seen that has gone through far enough to make contact with the 2nd gear servo spring. (ispro)
While i like to see the temp sensor in the cooler lines, 96-98 Dodge rams will accept the 98 transmission line as is no changes.
98 1/2 -2001 you must remove the one way flow valve that is located in the heat exchanger. 95 and earlier rams already have a temp sensor in the line, i have seen people that have teed off the existing temp sensor and develop late shifts into od.

For the 95 and earlier guys, i prefer to see the temp sensor in the pan. If that is not possible then you must use one of the pressure ports. Use the port in the middle, not the one up front for the 2nd gear servo.

Bill K. ,
I really appreciate your knowledge and experience with Diesel RAM Auto Trannys and thank you for all the info I have been printing out from the TDR of your responses. I am making a library of Diesel stuff that I will be able to refer to for a long time.
My question to you is about the location of my trans temp sensor, and it's accuracy.
I have my sensor at the very end of my Trans Oil Dipstick. Accurate or Not??
Thanks for your response ,
Bob
