I'm about to install a transmission temperature gauge in my truck. The instructions with the gauge suggest putting the sensor in the trans. fluid pan. What do you guys think ? Is that a good place to install it. I have an automatic trans. Thanks

The best place to install it is in the line to the trans cooler. You will get the most accurate reading as to your transmissions true tempature there. www.jannettyracing.com sells a kit that allows you to put the temp sensor in line. Costs about 40 bucks, easy to install with simple hand tools. The pan will work, but the readings will be considerably less then what your trannie is truly operating at.

Jim, don't splice a brass fitting onto the factory cooler lines. They are too soft. Order the Dodge cooler line directly from Dodge that has the port in the line for the sensor. This is the best place to get a true reading of the hottest temp you'll see.
E-mail me if you want more information.

They are compression fittings, and i have used this setup several times. I have 15k on mine and a friend has almost 90k on his plus numerous others with never a leak. The complete line kit is about 90 bucks compared to 40 for the Thermowell. And dont forget to take the checkvalve out of you use the line kit.

I agree with cscpusher... the replacement "hot" trans. cooler line (from a '95 Ram) is by far the best way to go.

DC Part # 5011244AA, Cost me $96. 95. (ouch). . But what a nice fit #ad

I just did this yesterday. I bought the '95 cooler line ($75. ), and removed the drainback valve from the flex hose on the new line. It's pretty easy - just take your time lining it up to avoid cross threading. I also changed my fluid and filter while I was under there. I got some tips from some fellow TDR members via email that was very helpful. Good luck!
