Sounds like mine.
When in lock up, my gauge will hover right at 150 degrees. I have been lead to believe that this is nominal. I do have a DTT TC and VB and a maghytech pan. The highest I've ever seen it is around 180 in stop and go.
Keep cool;
Josiah

<font color=blue>Since your gauge starts at 140&deg; then you will rarely see it much above that while cruising down the highway. Which is why I got the 100° to 240° transmission temp gauge. In stop and go traffic I can get it up to between 170° and 180°, and then I can get it upto 200° and a lil over when "playing around" with burnouts etc. <font size=-2>

My trans temp, sender located in hot line, normally runs between 140-160. It will go up to 260 when towing up a steep hill where there are a lot of turns and you can't get over 25 mph. I buried the temp gauge at 350 when I suddenly started losing power even though the engine was at 2500 rpm. Then I saw a lot of smoke, it was from the transmission fluid on the exhaust pipe. Factory rubber hose that connects the hot line to the heat exchanger blew. Changed all the fluid, and luckily the trans is still OK. Still shifts like it did before the hose blew and still doesn't slip at WOT. My gauge is 140 to 350 degrees.

My trans temp sending unit is on the end of my dipstick! I never have been over 200 degrees uder load in the middle of summer floored!

My temps rarely get above 100 degrees measured in the pan (Mag Hytec). Towing (13,500lbs) I saw it get just above 170 once. I understand that the best place to monitor the real temp is in the line leaving the transmission for the cooler? How are folks tapping a sending unit in the line?

<font color=blue>
No the HX40 is still not "on" the truck. It has been prepped by Majestic Turbo, and is ready to go one. I wanted to "further" upgrade my transmission, and make sure my fuel system is stable (lift pump etc) before I add any more power. If I want some fun I punch up the PE on Level III. I'll post as soon as its on, along with the DDIII's, ATS Manny, and also hoping by then the Edge COMP box (PE & EZ in one box) is out so I can change to that. Its kind of a "hurry up and wait" kinda thing. Also the purchase of that 71 Challenger kinda took "priority" so haven't concentrated on the truck recently.

I have AutoMeter UltraLites series.

  • EGT 0° to 1600° - #4365
  • EGT Thermocouple - #5244
  • transmission temp 100° to 240° - #4357
  • Boost Gauge 0 to 35 PSI - #4304
  • Custom Boost 0 to 50 PSI - #4304SP

I need to take some more pictures of the truck's gauges, this picture doesn't do it justice (those of you that have seen it know what I mean). I got my gauges from Summit Racing, the 50lb boost gauge I had Autometer custom make and it can be ordered from JRE. <font size=-2>

Hey KATDIESEL, where did you run your lines from the gauges on the dash pod to the firewall? I don't really like the pillar pods but thought the dash pod looked O. K. but was wondering what to do with the wires and lines, thanks.

I have the same dash pod, I ran my wires up past the A pillar and in the seam between the windshield and the dash. Some other guys drill a hole in the top of the dash under the pod and route the wires that way. I haven't decided yet if I want to stay with the dash pod I have, try out a dash pod that rides on top of the dash over the instrument cluster or see if I like an A pillar setup. The biggest draw backs of the 15002 are the glare/reflection on the windshield and a spot on the windshield that tends to stay frozen/refreeze unless you run your in cab heat pretty high.

I have Isspro EGT, Trans, and Boost gauges and wish I would've spent a little more money. The EGT gauge sometimes sticks and won't go below 30 (I can send it back to them and they'll fix)when engine is shut off. The transmission gauge starts at 140. But what irritates me most is that I have the three gauges in a pillar mount and the backlighting levels of all three are different. I can barely read the boost at night. You'd think Isspro would've figured that out.
