Payload Ratings and Campers

I have a Quad Cab 98' with auto transmission, pulling a 33' 5ver. What should be a BAD temp when rolling through a town with 69 million stop lights. It stays pretty low on the road and of course higher in traffic. What is too much? Trans and Engine both stock with no mods. . Thanks for any insight... .

It all depends on where you are monitoring your temp. In the pan ? This does not tell much except how cool the oil in the bottom of the pan is. In the cooling line to the waterjacket cooler ? This will be the only real indication of true transmission temp as the fluid exiting the trans is the temp of the internals.

Shooter is right.

But monitoring the temp in the pan is better than waiting for the idiot light to tell you something is wrong.

I have never seen temps over 200 in the pan on very hot wx and stop and go. Normal 150-170.

RV journal said 240 in the pan was OK. I would be pulling over if I ever saw that.

Thanks for the replies. I have my sensor in the line going to the cooler. I figured this to be the best place to monitor. Have thought of a sensor in the pan with a switch to the gauge just for gee wiz info on what that temp is reading out. .

My sender is in the cooler line. I usually see under about 170 cruising down the highway. Over 200 isn't hard to see when in 2nd gear. I see 230 at times, but not much higher. I'm also stock all the way around. My TT is about 7,000 lbs.

In traffic jams I have seen temperatures upt to 230 or so. I'm going to try to see what will happen when I use my DTT smart box to keep 2nd locked up with the transmission in second. It will stay locked up until I slow below 18 mph.
