Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) trans temp

Is there a service port or somewhere on my 47re trans to install my temp sendor? Please help! Want to tap into line later just not right now... . cold outside

yes....

it's easy to get at once you see it. Look toward the top of the transmission, near the back, on the drivers side. The hex plug is above and behind the shift linkage. As I remember it was a 10mm head. This plug will tap into the ATF just before it goes out of the transmission toward the cooler.

A better location might be on the pass side front of transmission. There is a round servo area just above the pan. Two 1/8 inch plugs are there. Take out the top one and screw in 1/8" temp sender. You will get true hottest fluid temp as this is were TC dumps fluid that goes to cooler. I see temps from 170- 220 here.

Temp sensor location

Smokin Joe 400, Buy a 95 cooler line from fred at desert diesel http://www.desertdieselparts.com/d24_automatictransmissions.htm, or your local stealer p/n 05011244AA aka oil cooler tube, it replaces the line going to the cooler from the transmission and has a port installed right as the fluid comes out of the transmission, this way you dont have to worry about putting a sensor in to far and accidentally shearing it. I am not sure about 2002 or 03 but the fluid in the 01's is specialty only at the dealer for $12. 00 qt. :{

I lost a quart of fluid when I did mine:--)

My DTT transmission Rebuilder installed a new temperature sensor in the 'hot' transmission line using a 'T' type fitting. I previously had been using a 'dipstick' sensing "thing-a-ma-bob" sensor on the end of the stick.

Anyway, they told me that the 'HOT' line before radiator cooling is the best place to install the sensor, because it gives the best TRUE reading of transmission temperature.

now this thread has me wondering - do I have the sender in the best (or at least adequate) spot ?



I was instructed with my guage set to install the sender where I posted earlier in this thread. And I was under the impression that this location at the test port on the drivers side picks up the ATF temp as it is on its way to the cooler.



Can anyone verify that this is correct/incorrect ?



I did find it interesting that I have never seen the temp above about 130, but I have not put any load on the truck since I got the guages.



I'd hate to find out later that I am getting a post-cooler reading and had been misreading the transmission condition when towing.

I installed mine in the top rear passenger side and get good readings. Just make sure your sender is not too long and hits on something, yipes... ... . Orangevale Diesel CA confirmed this as being a good location.

Opppps, spoke to quick. The location is bottom right, rear, passenger side. Just above the oil pan. :-laf
