I have been reading that you guys with autos see about 140-200 degrees on you trans temp gauge . I have my probe in the pan when traveling it reads about 100 degrees and one time in traffic it went up to 150 but that is it normally its about 120. seems to low also my transmission slips into overdrive lockup. once locked up its fine. My truck is a 98. 5 4x4 lwb quad

thanks Vic I was hoping my gauge was not bad. but I have pulled my stick out of the transmission and touched the fluid and it felt about 120 when the gauge read about that

You will see cooler readings in the pan. Alot of guys run their probe in the hot line going to the transmission cooler and that is where you will see the highest temps.

transmission Temps

CC - This time of year I get no movement at all in my 100-380 degree gauge, around town or on hwy. You don't list your location but suspect your in a cooler place than mine.

I have to hit Dallas gridlock before I know my gauge isn't dead. That's with a Mag Hy-Tec pan.

I wouldn't worry about it. Can't think of any situation, within reason -say OAT anywhere above minus 40 - where cooler isn't better for ATF. If your transmission is slipping (is that what you meant to say?) it's probably something else.

My sender is in the hot line and my guage is a 140-320 degree guage. On the freeway my temp never reaches 140, even in summer heat. In stop and go traffic it runs between 160 and 180, highest ever was 190. It is true that pan temps read cooler than line temps, maximum temps must be adjusted accordingly.
