I need advice, i have an 05, 3500, 4x4, 6spd, srw. my trouble started at 105000 mi. i started to have a noise that went wer, wer, wer, wer as i accelerated in 1st and 2nd. if i let up on the accelerator and just maintained speed the wer, wer, wer would subside. i now have 120000 on the truck and the napa service mechanic (who seems to know what he's talking about) checked it out and said it only makes the noise in 1st, 2nd, and reverse. this he said, means something is wrong at the rear of the trans. he said it could be a bearing, but can't say for sure. my options seem to be, wait for it to get worse, put in a re-manufactured, put in a new trans, or repair the one i have. my problem is i can't have the truck down for the last option as it will take to long. the kicker is that this may set me back 5000k with new clutch and whatever else. any advise would be greatly appreciated. You might try putting another court of synchromesh(pick your brand) through the top of the transmission. I had always read about it but always stuck by the designed fill port. That was until my last service and i had some funky noises. I took the shifter out and put about an additional 2qts. (5. 5) total in and it quieted it down a lot. The word is that the rear bearing doesn't get lubed properly unless you "overservice" through the top. Take it for what it's worth but it's a cheap way to start troubleshooting.
