My truck will not shift into 2nd unless I let up on the pedal. Also it will not go into Park. I changed the output speed sensor yesterday to no avail. Help this is my work truck. 99 1ton with 300 k miles The transmission was rebuilt about a yr ago. Thanks zapsurf.

Failure to shift into second is usually caused by a misadjusted front band (if you're lucky) or a broken front band.

It sounds like it's time to change the fluid, filter, and adjust both the bands and the shift linkage per the factory service manual.

Good luck,

John L.

If it won't go ionto park it sounds like the linkage. Check your motor supports to seee if anything has shifted? Will it start with the lever in pppark and neutral position? bg

Second Gear comes on from front band being applied. If you have no second gear without letting off, it means your band is so loose that when the band applys and trys to stop the drum, it can't squeeze enough to stop it. Loose adjustment.
BUT!! When it gets too loose, it can fall off and obstruct the rooster comb, preventing you from putting it into park.
Same thing happened to me on my 99.
If the band is not broken, easy fix. Drop the Valve body and put the adjusters back in place and do the adjustment. Reassemble, should be good to go.
