Transducer/Governor Pressure Sensor.

I have all the DTT mods, but this cold weather we are having is playing some tricks on my transmission it seems. I have discussed my problem with Bill, and have recieved the governor pressure sensor and the adjustable voltage regulator to cure it. My problem was second gear starts. Never went into 1st unless I went right from N to 1st real quick.



Now the question... . where does this thing go? I am sure Bill said I don't have to pull the transmission pan to swap out this Sensor. I just got back from rolling around under my truck in -30 and did not see where it would go. 3 different plugs on the drivers side of the transmission, but nothing that looks like the sensor I have and the connections won't fit. Is it possible that I may have to pull the pan and missunderstood Bill? Or is this bad boy hidden somewhere that I will have to send an elf to change it for me. Looked in my FSM and it never has any pics but it mentions it. If I don't get any help here tonight hopefully Bill is open for bussiness on saturdays.

Yep, you're gonna have to pull the pan. It is inside the transmission on the bottom of the valve body.

I will go take a closer look at the FSM..... I really don't want to pull the pan.

Yup, the FSM does not lie. It is right beside the Governor solenoid. Good call CAnderson

John, it is necessary to pull the pan, you'll have to remove 4(7/16 head) bolts and 2 t-25 head screws to remove. You do not have to remove the valvebody. If the second gear starts are consistent you might try first only installing the voltage regulator and see if that cures your problem. That may save you having to pull the pan. By the way, torque on the bolts is 100 in lb, and the screws is 50 in lb. Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips James. I will try the voltage thing first. I was getting readings of 5. 08v and with my ohm resistor in it was 4. 10. I was still getting second gear starts. I still think it is weather related -34c or -28f here right now. Did not do this when first installed. One more thing, I will quote directly from FSM:



Before installing the pressure sensor and solenoid in the governor body, replace O-ring seals, clean the gasket surfaces and replace the gasket.





I do not have a gasket, will I be all right using the old one? There is a new O-ring on the new governor pressure sensor.

One more question, somewhere in my memory I remember that there was a different transmission filter that could be used, and was better than the factory listing for my application. Was it the filter for a 727 tf?

John, you can usually reuse the gasket on the valvebody. The voltage you posted (4. 10) seems a bit low. Voltage too low can cause a problem as can too high. Considering the temps you have to deal with I would recommend using a synthetic fluid such as Amsoil as it won't thicken up as much as regular ATF. I say this because the orifices you are dealing with in the solenoid and sensor are small and regular ATF thickens a bunch in those temps. To illustrate this, put a quart of the ATF you are using in your freezer (or outside) overnight and them pour it into a container and watch how it flows(or oozes). This also makes it harder for the fluid to flow through the cooler which is what lubes the gear train in the trans. The other filter you mention is from a 727 from most any earlier Mopar product. The gasket is the same as well. Good luck.
