I think I'm about to have Transfer case Problems.

95 2500 Auto All Stock with 220,000 on the OD.

Driving any speed and all the time I hear what sounds like birds chirping. I first thought it was a wheel bearing or brake caliper but they were ok when I rotated the tires yesterday.

Got home jacked up the driver side tire and got the noise when I rotated and traced it back to the Transfer case

I know the fluid(Amsoil) level is and has been OK.

Thanks for you time and help.

I checked the Vacuum Control System on the Front and it was Locked in 4WD.

Cleaned and now the chirping is in 4WD only.

I'm thinking the Transfer case chains have streched. 5/9/2006

Check the output bearing retaining ring. They have been known to break on some of the transfer cases. It is a bad situation as it allows the rear bearing to move out of place which lets things move around inside and damage the internal oil pump.

Drop the drive line and remove the rear extension. The ring should be in a groove holding the output bearing in place.

Thanks.

The U-Joints are new.

The reason they are new the one at the front end of drive shaft was bad so I

Replaced the front and C/V Joint at the same time.

I'll check the Out Put shaft tonight.

Just got the Housing off ant the Bearing is about 1/8" out.

Can I work it back in?

I'm gussing it needs to go toward the front of truck about 1/4".

Thanks for your help.

Go to the web site that Matthug indicates in his post. Those folks can tell you much more than I can. They also sell the TCase Saver which will prevent any more trouble with the snap ring.

I think you got lucky. Do a search on Transfer Case snap ring problems.
