Transfer Case Disassembly

When replacing the two seals on the shafts that slide in and out engaging and disengaging the 4WD (the two shafts have a bridge and a linkage to the shifter), do the shafts come out the front of the T case or do I need to remove both rear covers? Thanks,

They Come Out The Front.

Do I need to loosen anything on the back side? When I try to pull them out the front, they do not seem to want to come out. Am I missing something?
