Has anyone ever had trouble with the (what I call) vacuum transfer on the transfer case where the vacuum plug is at? When i lock the truck in 4 wheel the case locks in but i'm not getting vacuum to the motor on the front axle. Just curious to know what could be wrong? Just fixed the fifth gear nut on my transmission but dont want to bolt the x-fer case back on if i need to tear into it. Any info is appreciated.

Yep, had the same problem. There's a switch that switches the vacuum lines that run to the front end. It's pretty common for this switch to get sticky and quite working. Not sure what it takes to change it since mine was done when I had my new transmission installed. Also, the vac. solenoid on the front axle was leaking. Once both were replaced everything worked like new.

Taker easy,

Mike

I guess you dont know if the transfer case has to tore down to work on that do you? I've had one apart before for other reasons but thought it would save some time if i didnt have to. I have made 4 wheel work by jumping out the transfer case, by connecting the vacuum directly to the front motor but i want to get it working right. If you find out or know anyone who knows please let me know. thanks,

Lance

Dad was having problems with his, and I found around here a link to a kit that removes the vacumn crap and puts a cable on the disconnect up front. Now he pulls the cable under the dash and can feel it lock in. Just do a search around here and you can find the link. My opinion is fix it right. Its also handy for backing heavy trailers, he can pull the t-case into low side without engaging the front diff.

Thanks for the info. thats a sweet idea, but i dont know what i'm gonna do. I've got the truck sold so i dont really wanna spend and $$, i may try getting the oem switch to work.

OEM replacement switch is something like $15. 00 from the dealer. If you have any oil in the lines, that will cause problems too. Check all of the hose connections to make sure they are tight and not swolen from oil being introduced into the vac system from the vac pump.

How do you get the switch out? I took the case apart today and cleaned inside the switch and worked it back and forth. Seemed to be working better. If it doesnt work i'll check the lines. thanks
