BD plug n power and a set of injectors

I changed the fluid in the transfer case yesterday. It was easier than expected. I have the 241HD with the PTO cover. The specs say 9. 5 pints with PTO or 6. 5. Without a PTO connected the correct amount is 6. 5 pints. I have 50,000 on the truck and the fluid that drained looked as good as the new stuff. I used Mopar ATF +4. Cost from the dealer was $29/gallon including tax... . about $7. 50 if you buy it by the guart. The drain and fill fittings are 10mm hex "Allen" wrench. I used a hand operated transfer pump to fill the case. Also put some anti-sieze on the threads when you put the plug fittings back in. :)

I change mine every two years which works out to be approxiamatly every 25,000 miles. With 53,000 miles and the second change the fluid was as red and smelled as new as the last time I changed it. I use quaker state ATF+3 at $2. 00 a quart, or roughly $7. 00 a transferr case fluid change.

I also change out 6. 5 quarts of transmission fluid every six months which comes out to 6,000 miles or 12,000 miles and $25. 00 dollars a year for transmission fluid. I know it is a little over kill but I figure $25. 00 is cheap insurance on a transmission that will cost $3,000-$4,000 to replace. Changing fluid is as simple as removeing a drain plug so why not.
