Has anyone ever put a transfer case in a 2WD so that you could use low range while jockeying a trailer into a camping site? Or would you have almost as much $ in it as a Gear Vendors or U. S. Gear Under/Overdrive unit?

X-case installed into 2wd

The old man was looking into it for his 92 2-wheeler and what he found out was that he would need the transfer case (with linkage), tail parts out of transmission (he has a 5sp), driveline and crossmember. It was suggested that he find an already mated 5sp and X-case to make it easier.

Did you see the thread on the new patent from Gear Vendors for their new 3 way box with under/direct/over drive modes? I would sure look at it first - Best of both worlds for loaded and unloaded travels.

Another option

Just thought of another solution and that is to go with a divorced X-case so you don't have to monkey with the transmission. Might take a extra work on the driveline work and mounting but would possible be less expensive.
