While installing my new clutch, I noticed that I had a slight leak of ATF from the input seal on my T-case. After I removed the seal holder plate, I noticed that the bearing for the input to the t-case is damaged and needs to be replaced. Does anyone know if I have to split the case to replace this bearing, or does the bearing come out the front of the case without disassembling the case? The bearing has a 6010N marking on it. I assume NAPA will be able to provide the bearing, or do I have to go to Dodge? I found the bearing at www.drivetrain.com, but I would like to pick it up locally so that I can get the truck back on the road tomorrow.

Well for any of you who are wondering.....

I ended up having to pull the entire case apart to replace the front bearing. The bearing is pressed into the the front of the housing so in theory if you could pull the old one out, you would be able to replace it without opening the case. I was unable to pull the old bearing out, so I had to split the case. I am glad that I did because there is a magnet located near the pickup for the pump, which was full of metal particles. I assume they are the remants of the destroyed front bearing. I was also able to clean the pickup screen for the pump. Thankfully there was no sign of internal damage in the case. The replacement bearing can be purchased from NAPA ($63) or drivetrain.com ($22. 58) NAPA part numbers are as follows:

Input bearing for NP241DHD = BRG6010NRJ

Input seal for NP241DHD = NOS19255

Hope this helps.

I am not sure, but I do not think it is the thrust bearing. I think the thrust bearing is located near the rear of the main shaft, and is held in place by a snap ring which is accessaboe by removing a rubber gromet from the top of the tail housing.

The front bearing has two snap rings associated with it, one whick is keyed into the outer bearing race which prevents the bearing from moving back into the t-case, and one which is keyed into the input shaft, which prevents the input shaft from moving back into the housing through the bearing.
