I just had my transmission out of my 03 to get the rear band replaced. The transfer case didn't leak before all of this but it did sit on the shop floor for about 10 days before I got the trans back in. It never leaked before but now it is wet and dripping from end of tail shaft to lower bolt holes of the back half of the transfer case. Is it more likely the rear seal or could the breather at the top be stopped up and causing the it leak around the bolts and seal between the halves.

I've had several out through all the trucks I've owned... I can't imagine you could drop the thing hard enough to do damage other than crack the case... if you think about a bad u-joint and how much it has to vibrate when its bad... and the real seal absorbs that vibration and shaking.. I just don't see having the unit in and out... could do it... Just my thoughts...

I finally had time to clean it good last night and checked it this morning and it is defiantly leaking around the tail shaft seal. I guess with 230k plus miles it was just time.
