Getting ready to change my friends NV5600 transmission oil to a synthetic and was wondering what the transfer case takes?

Going with Amsoil MTF for the syncros in the trans, but I saw somewhere the transfer case took ATF... . making sure I have the right stuff and enough.

2004. 5 3500 Dually

This year had the NV5600 per my friend... . the next year the changed transmission builders.

Thanks for feedback in advance!:)

X-fer case uses ATF+4, approx 2. 75 qts. Very easy to change. I think I had to remove my skid plate (4 bolts).

Torque for drain and fill plugs is 30 to 40 ft-lbs.

You could probably use the MTF in the t-case also. Anything that will provide better lube is going to help.

I just did mine also very easy... ...

I bought a gallon of ATF+4. I was able to put the filler tube right on the gallon bottle and dumped it in untill it ran out the hole.

Not sure how much it was but less than a gallon.

Mac:cool:

Reminder: Make sure the fill plug is loose before removing the drain plug! I use Redline ATF+4C and it has looked good as new at each change, 4 changes so far... been changing every 25K.

FWIW, I run Royal Purple Synchromax in my transfercase... over 100k and the fluid drains clean every time (50k changes). I may change over to Redline MTL for the next change since that's what I run in the 5600...
