Does anyone know if Dodge has eliminated the manual 4wd transfer case lever in favor of an electronic transfer case for 2008? When I was using the "build my own" feature on the Dodge site there was no option for a manual xfer case. Thanks

According to the '08 Dodge brochure I have, the option packages that still have the manual shift tcase are the ST, SXT, and Big Horn. The SLT and Laramie packages have the electronic shift tcase as standard equipment.

is there a difference in the actual tcase, or just the shifting mechanism?

What tcase are in the laramie's... . 208?

As far as I know, all '03 and up 3rd gens come with either the NV271(manual shift) or the NV273(electric shift) tcases. However, I might be wrong about the '08s because Dodge might have changed over to tcases made by Magna Powertrain for this model year like GM did due to New Venture Gear being bought out by Magna Powertrain. I haven't had the chance to look under an '08 yet to confirm or deny this. Maybe someone on here might be able to help.

My 2007. 5 SLT came with Electronic transfer case.

Couple questions. [I have been a manual t-case guy for 30 years... ]

1. How much problems have been seen with NV273 soleniod mechanism?

2. How much approx $ to change back to the NV271 with shift handle?

Thanks, Luke:eek:

I have been told to change from electric to manual, the case needs to be changed. There hasn't been many problems to date on the forums with the electric shifting t-case. The motor is in the $140 range to replace.

We have an 04. 5 with the electronic shift-on-the-fly.

I switch constantly between 4x4 and 4x2 in rainy (and snowy) conditions in city driving. I have used it less frequently on the highway.

Never had any problems in either case.

Its a matter of removing the old tcase and the electronic shift stuff, punching a hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter and putting the new setup in. To be honest with you, the electronic shift tcase is really nothing to worry about on these trucks like it is on the Fords. Just give the electronic shift system plenty of practice and it'll be as reliable as the rest of the truck itself.

All, Thanks for the replies. Given Dodge has the front axle turning all the time with no Central Axle Disconnect this helps. My 97 had the vacuum switch on the T-case go bad, which wouldn't allow the CAD to engage the front end.

If I have issues in the future with the NV273 - I might swap, but for now - it has been fine with the snow and ice use.

Thanks, Luke
