Hello fellow oil burners... ,
I have a question reguarding transfer case chains. My 95 has the stock transfer case with 205,000 miles on it. I have alot of lost motion in the drive line, especially when I have to lift off the loud pedal quickly with the TC locked up. I went through the rear diff and checked all the backlash and bearings and it is all tight. however, when twisting the driveshaft back and forth with the transmission in neutral and the p-brake set, I can actually hear the chain slaping on the case housing. It shifts great and no other problems that I know of. Now to my question... Has anyone tightened the chain drive or replaced the chain without rebuilding the whole kit-n-caboodle??? I know it sounds like I am a cheap-skate, but I am trying to save for a full transmission replacement instead of just the TC and valve-body, and if I have to replace the transfer case as well it will knix the full transmission idea. Thanks for all the help so far.
