A week or two ago I picked up on this outfit that makes something that looks like a clamp arrangement that fits over the output shaft on the transfer case. It is supposed to keep the snap ring from breaking or something.

I wanted to take another look at this gadget , but I can't find the link anywhere. It may have got lost in a computer changeover.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me find this again.

Thanks.

Transfer case saver

What you're lookin' for is the transfer case saver by

Gilleys Products. It replaces the snap ring with a two piece

machined ring/two bolt assembly.

My snap ring broke last year and I ended up replacing

The shift hub and syncro assembly along with an overhaul kit

Web site price is about $40. www.Gilleysproducts.com

Transfer Case Saver on 1995

Will these work on a 1995 4x4 transfer case? Didn't see that info on their site. Are they needed? Thanks, jps

They say it is quite common for the snap ring on the rear of the transfer case to break, causing lots of damage inside. I have never had problems with mine, but who knows if it will someday.

I may be wrong on this but I think this is only a problem with the standard cab truck using a one piece driveshaft. Transfer cases without a bolt on yoke are usually the only ones with a snap ring. If your driveshaft splines are binding it puts extra stress on the snap ring and can cause it to break. It's suggested that Mopar P/N 06025570 (an eyelet snap ring) be used instead of the original. This ring is about . 005 thicker and is heat treated in a different way to make it less brittle. This ring is the correct size for 233, 241, 245 and 246 New Process transfer cases. The snap ring is located on the output shaft directly behind the rear bearing.

Broke one once. I'll be ordering one. I was very lucky it was the night before I was getting a transmission case leak fixed under the rebuilders warranty and they were pulling it out anyway. So I limped the truck to the shop the next day and they rebuilt it for a couple of hundred bucks.

They replaced it with an "improved" snap ring but the transmission saver looks pretty good to me. Does anyone know if it fits into the snap ring groove?

I guess I'll find out for sure in a few days when I get around to installing mine

Mine would make a gear grinding noise under throttle. It progressively gets worse until it grinds all the time under accelleration, not coasting.

I can change one out in 40 minutes now.
