2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Transfer case shift knob

I'm trying to take off my shift knob on the transfer case shifter to put on a geno's C power shift knob. Problem is, It won't come off! Are they thread locked on at the factory or something?

I think I can help thanks to a loose (buzzing) knob: Pry the center cap, beneath is a hex nut that locks the knob to the shaft.

Once you get the lock nut off there may be thread locker on there. A strap wrench helped me get my shift knob off.
