I just purchased a used 2009 3500 CTD 4x4 with only 2500 mi on the odometer. On two different occasions with the engine off for approx. 5 minutes I heard what I now believe is a transfer case switch actuation, although there had been no movement of 4WD selector on the dash. This is my first 4WD, but I can't imagine this is normal. Also, days earlier I have tried the 4WD and 4WD Lo and all seemed okay including the operation of the dash indicator lights. However, one time while driving at night I noticed the 4WD indicator light quickly flashed on then off while crossing an uneven intersection. Is the single switch actuation normal with the engine off? And if not, what could be the cause? please elaborate, as I am new to 4WD mechanics.

The shifter switch sense wire or the 5v is shorting to ground or to another circuit. The circuit is a MUX circuit and works by using a different voltage (resistance) for each switch position. If the voltage changes the truck thinks you are requesting a transfer case shift.

SAag2, where can I find a wiring diagram to trace the wires?
