Hello all,

I have a '97 2500 CTD/auto with the 241LD transfer case. I might be able to get a 241DHD (made around 2000) for a really good price. Would I be able to swap out the light duty case for the heavy case without spending a lot of money? Would I need to change either the transmission output or transfer case input shaft, the rear drive shaft, etc?

hey ryan i have a 241hd and am switching to a np271 and i run the nv4500 i dont think you have to change anything cause as i am doing my swap everthing has bolted right up except i had to change the vaccume harness and belive me i have been told "ya it'll bolt RIGHT up!" before but this one is auctualy working let us know how your swap goes good luck cahammer

I just picked it up today. Looks like I'll have to modify the tailhousing to run the speedo mechanism. Doesn't look to be a problem, but you never know. I'll know better in a few days. I'll keep ya posted.

I am not sure if the shaft has the splines on it in the new case or not. If it doesn't then your speedo will not work. I personally don't see the benefit unless your doing serious truck pulling, or 20+ PSI 4x4 launches. The DLD is pretty stout for everyday use.
