Hello all,

I have a '97 2500 CTD/auto with the 241LD transfer case. I might be able to get a 241DHD (made around 2000) for a really good price. Would I be able to swap out the light duty case for the heavy case without spending a lot of money? Would I need to change either the transmission output or transfer case input shaft, the rear drive shaft, etc?

Thanks

Ryan

You will have to shorten your drive shaft to make it fit. If it is coming out of an automatic then it will work, but you lose your speedometer. Some of the tailshafts housings can be swapped out. Why are you wanting to change it? The 241LD's will take quite a bit of abuse. I changed mine out since I was going to truck pull mine. I figured change it before I broke it then I could have a good 241LD, instead of breaking it then changing it and having a broken DLD. If your transfer case is bad PM me I still have mine and we might be able to work out a trade.

Nothing is wrong with my 241LD, I just figured if I could upgrade to the better unit for not a lot of money, then why not. Why would I lose my speedo?
