I am getting ready to change out my transfer case fluid and I wanted to make sure that what I bought will work with no problems. I am replacing the ATF +3 with Royal Purple Synchromax. Anyone have any experience with the Synchromax? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Amsoil makes an oil just for things like t-cases. I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called, though. It is what I plan to run when I do future t-case oil changes, though.

I think Cummins98 here on TDR posted something about it several months back.

I have an Amsoil catalog in my semi. I'll try to remember to look it up tonight.

I have been running Amsoil 5w30 MTF (manual transmission fluid), which is Amsoil's answer for the NV5600. It's not thick like gear oil but heavier than ATF so I feel better. I have put a few hundred thousand miles on the truck running this oil and had no problems so it obviously works for me. Before this I ran Amsoil Series 3000 HDD 5w30 motor oil, which also worked well. I'm sure there are other oils besides Amsoil that will also work but this is the only one I have any experience with.

I'm actually using the Amsoil Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 (MTG), the stuff made for the NV4500, I dont see why your Synchromax wouldn't work in it so give it a try.

The reason I'm not comfortable with the heavy gear oil is that there is an oil pump in this t-case that lubes some of the bearings. There is not way I would run heavy oil in a cold climate. Some guys seem to get away with it maybe but I won't be trying it.

Thats true but I just figured I'd try it since Its got to lubricate better then that ATF and I had some for my transmission anyway. I put it in right after I overhauled the t-case and it didn't seem too think ans is working fine even when It was cold up in western PA. Also isn't 70wt gear oil equal to 5w-30, so you may be better off, maybe Ill switch to that later on.

I use Mobile 1 ATF. Works for me (and it meets the specs for my truck). Change it every 80,000 miles and it still looks new!
