Can some of you look at your transfer case and see if there is a line on the rear extension case ( thats the cone shaped part of the case where the drive shaft spline goes into case). I noticed a line on mine today when I was checking underneath. This line appears about three inches from the end of where the driveshaft seal is located on the transfer case. The line appears straight and goes even all the way around the extension, but does not look like a casting line. Its almost like the extension is two pieces, but that don't make sense. I never noticed it before?? No leaks, but I'm hoping that it isn't cracking. My transfer case is a NV231HD.

OK, i looked it over last night. mine is smooth all the way from the seal at the yoke to where it meets the case. no seams or castings

maybe you better get under there and look at it close to make sure its not cracking

I'm going to look again. Its such a straight line all the way around I didn't think it was a crack?? Maybe I was hoping rather than thinking. Thanks for the info.

You know I was thinking it could be just casting flash???oooops, you already said it didn't look like flash,DOHH!!

Just checked mine ,it also has a line going all the way round, most bizarre. It,s too straight to be a crack, who knows!!

Thanks guys. I climbed under again and looked closer, still cannot figure out. Definately not a crack, so it must be a casting line. Its not leaking, so I'll keep an eye on it. I'll get some 4X4ing this next week in the snow, so I'll see if it seperates or leaks. At least I don't have to go to the dealer and argue that the 2 low switch or a box (if I had one  ) caused a problem. Thanks again.
