I've been interested for some time in buying an auxiliary fuel tank for my Dodge Ram to extend my towing range and allow ME rather than my fuel gauge to determine when and where to purchase fuel.

Until a couple weeks ago I had not found a practical solution for filling the auxiliary tank without crawling around with old and worn knees under my camper shell with a diesel fuel hose and nozzle in my hand. That idea didn't appeal to me.

When I received my recent issue of the TDR magazine I was impressed with the full back cover page advertisement for a new 70 gallon Transfer Flow tank with an automatic fuel transfer and shut-off feature. I read the advertising copy and was interested.

I visited Transfer Flow's website and ran across the solution I didn't know existed! Transfer Flow also sells a nice accessory fillneck kit designed for filling through a camper shell. The kit includes a nicely finished bezel.

I contacted Transfer Flow and found them friendly and helpful to deal with. I read the phone sales rep the numbers on my magic plastic money and the tank was delivered within a week. When I opened the crate and examined the packages I was impressed with the quality of the equipment, hardware, and fittings.

The directions provided were complete and easy to read. The tank and the fillneck kit were easy to install. The fit and finish are excellent and I am well-pleased with the entire installation.

I can't comment yet on how well the auxiliary tank functions because it won't operate until my OEM tank gauge drops to 3/8 full. When the fuel reaches that level the TF tank computer will turn on the auxiliary pump and fill my OEM tank to 3/4 full then shut off again. This cycle will continue until the auxiliary tank is empty. When the OEM tank shows less than 3/8 full, I will know that is all the fuel I have remaining.

Yes, I think we are both thinking of the molded fiberglass cab-high covers over the bed of a pickup truck.

Fiberglass covers for pickup beds are known by various names depending on your region of the country. I've always referred to them as camper shells. I guess Transfer Flow does also as their website identifies their fill neck kit as "Camper Shell Fillneck Kit. " The Leer catalog identifies the unit I own as "truck cap. "

If you or anyone is interested, it is a little hard to find Transfer Flow's "Camper Shell Fillneck Kit. " I found it by accident when reviewing their tank offerings. The fillneck kit is located under "In-Bed Tanks" on their website.

Hey Bill, what kind of topper is that in the photo?

I am about ready to buy a Snug-Top Super Sport for my 99 Qaud cab short bed. Does anybody know where to get the best price?

My camper shell is a LEER. Fit, finish, and overall quality are great. My local truck camper shell retailer would probably give you a heck of a deal but Lubbock, TX is a long run from Seattle to save a few bucks on a new shell. I know because I was in the Seattle area in July.
