with all the horror stories out there it's easy to over look how easy it is to change one of these trouble makers. Today was the first time I did it and it took about forty min. and three wrenches. I'm shade tree qualified at best, and believe me anyone can do this.
Hard to believe that DC gets around $600. 00 (parts & labor) to change that bad boy. They oughtta have a gun.
Don't get me started on the $70. 00-$90. 00 fuel filter changes.....
It has always been my feeling that if I CAN do it myself I'll learn and do it myself, even for people who do nothing but change their own fluids it's a way of keeping plugged in with what your vehicle is doing, you know it's getting done right, and you're saving money at the same time. Also gives the do-er some face time under the hood where other things (missing, leaking, etc. ) can be found. An informed driver/owner is a better driver/owner.
Kills me when I see grown men sitting on the curb at the side of the road with a flat. They're either a)too stupid to check/maintain spare and tools or b)too lazy to learn how to change a tire. In this particular case I say the shop/mechanic should take 'em for what they can, the dude has it coming.
