Well, on a trip to San Diego from Vancouver, WA. my 1998 truck started surging and bucking.

The more the throttle the more the bucking and surging.

I went to a dodge dealer who said it sounded like the transfer pump has failed and that the injector pump was drawing the fuel all the way from the tank, which it was not designed to do.

They replace the transfer pump and fuel filter. Truck once again runs great.

Is the transfer Pump what you guys are referring to as the lift pump? If so why are you calling it a lift pump when Dodge calls it a transfer pump? Confusing.

TIA

Bob

The manual states it this way, as a heading: "FUEL TRANSFER (LIFT) PUMP. " Under fuel System 14-63. Just happened to have it out and turned to that page this morning. :)

transfer / lift pump!

The reason it is called a transfer/lift pump, is because as long as you own your truck you will continue to "lift the pump out when it breaks and transfer another one in" I think DC should have called it a" replacement pump". :D
