Is the transfer pump covered under Cummins 100k if the wire corrodes and breaks off????? Anyone know where you can get one on a Sunday afternoon in Michigan's thumb area???????:(

Welcome to the TDR. The lift pump is covered by the 100K warranty. As to where to get one on a Sunday... . you might be SOL. Maybe a member in the area has one and will see this.

Just as a general note there is a great search feature on this sight. I searched for lift pump warranty and got these results.

As for where to get one... try here and hit it Monday AM.

I see you say the wires corroded off. . this must be an old pump so when you get the new one you will need a pig tail to extend the wires... Cummins sells them too. . just be sure to ask for on if you go the Cummins route.

Thanks JR2, yes i was changing the fuel filter and noticed the corrosion on the wire, thought I better take a look, and hardly bumped it and it fell off... . Needless to say it wouldn't fire but for about 5 seconds at a time, then die..... I think I was pretty lucky to already have it it in the barn, instead of on the road... ... .

'98. 5 24v. 78k never had a problem with fuel before... ... ... ... ... .

It all depends on what year truck you have as to what it's covered too - not sure about the breakdowns. Some years it's covered on the 70,000 mile emissions warranty and other years it seems to be covered under the 100,000 mile engine warranty. Regardless you aren't going to be able to get it covered on the weekend. Your warranty is with Dodge, not Cummins and no Dodge dealers are open on sunday that I know of. Cummins Michigan is open on sundays at most locations. You can find a Cummins Michigan location at http://www.cumminsmichiganpower.com/ . A lift pump through them should be around $150.

Thanks Steve, but if cummins warrants for 100k why wouldn't they honor the transfer pump, and D/C is?? I'm just curious, I deal with Mt. Clemens Dodge (I know the service manager), and Cummins Michigan is also right across the street, so either way I'm gettin' that sucker in the morning..... It seems too me if it's Cummins Warranty they should replace the pump if I take it too them also, just my thought... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Randy

I believe Dodge Corp. buys the engines from Cummins with no warranty.

Then it's up to D/C to perform warranty work, or sub the work to Cummins while D/C pays for the work and/or parts.

What Shovelhead said. Your warranty is with D/C, Cummins is just one of Dodges suppliers. A good comparison is your axles - they are made by Dana corporation but the warranty is with Dodge. Some dealers do sub out their work to Cummins shops on the engine - but you still have to work through the dealer.
