Transfer pump part of warranty?

I don't know whether this goes in the engine and transmission forum or not, so I am posting in both. Apologies.

My 2004 2500 (57k miles) stalled with symptoms indicating transfer pump failure. Question: Is the transfer pump covered in the warranty?

And, if so, am I still better of replacing it in the same position myself, rather than having it stuck in my fuel tank? I can get a replacement from Geno's and put it where the original is.

OK, thanks. That's what I kind of thought and hoped. Now, I'm thinking that if they put the pump in the fuel tank, I cannot replace the next one myself down on Baja 1 or somewhere like that. What's the thinking about whether to have a free transfer pump in the fuel tank or a $179 dollar one not in the fuel tank - with a spare under the seat?

Finally had time to go back into all the old posts on this subject. I haven't paid much attention to the 5. 9 engine forum because of the low mileage on mine, and I watch the First Gen more faithfully. Upshot - looks like a "name your poison" deal. Since I am in places in the Baja with my wife where a failed fuel pump in the tank would be a walk off and leave it and hope it's there when you get back deal, I am going to forego the free in-tank fix and have "two in the hand. " The 5. 9 is still stock.
