Is anyone using a transfer tank rather than a certifed auxiliary tank? Have you ever been stopped or hassled about it? The transfer tanks are about half the price of the regular aux tanks and for the limited use i need it for i would like to save some money. The one I am looking at says DOT certified is that good enought to get by?

I would think that if it is DOT certified than it is good to go, talk to one of your state troopers that does inspections and he will prolly tell you the same thing. I know of no other certification needed ... ... ... ..... of course if you are in California it may be different, seams they make stuff up just to make our life miserable

cheers, Kevin

Make sure the tank is DOT certified as a in line tank, it could be just certified as a DOT transfer tank which means it is certified to ride around in the back of your truck, but you can not run it in-line with your fuel system, you can only do that with a DOT certified supply tank which will cost twice as much, that is just you and me giving more money to the government, I personally would rather give it to them in the form of a ticket than a tank up-charge. :)

Third attempt , Yes tank from Tractor supply . They have a 50 gal tank that will fit under rails , tank plate states not to be connected to vehicle fuel system . Ok for diesel in all states ,gas in all ,Except CAL. I use with 12v pump and in line water seporater filter and auto shut off nosel . Hope this helps . www.tractorsupplyco.com for info and price. not in any way connected to tractor supply or any store or co. Ron in Louisville KYOo. :D

transfer tank

I put a 40ga. DEEZEE tank at the front of my bed with a crossover toolbox behind it. the tank sits lower than the rails and you dont even know it's there. It's only 9in. wide. I kept a hand pump in a seperate box and put it in when I needed it,I didn't want to deal with the troopers. I then found out that under 40ga. you don't need a permit as long as it is not attatched to you truck tank. I keep two 5lb fire ext in the bed bolted to my boxes, that keeps them happy.

2002 forest green 3500 HOturbo 6 speed 4x4 slt KNfilter, side and crossover diamond plate toolboxes,40ga trans tank, limo black rear windows, vent visors, cloth interior, all options, custom headache rack, cup smoothie from GENOES garage, the thing is a life saver, full lenth steel running boards from tough country, and a few more little things. for now.
