I almost bought a truck with the electronic transfer case knob, even though it is a more expensive option, I am glad I got the manual shift knob, also got the clearance lights which the other truck didn't have. How did you get it back into gear?
I special ordered mine without the electronic transfer case servo after my Ford buddy was left stranded in Ocotillo by his. Some other Ford guys were able to mecanically override the thing. Ford replaced the part and no more problems, but he wishes it was manual. Hope you have no more issues with it.
Have seen same problem with electronic shift reported on another diesel site. As I recall, dealer replaced transfer case shift actuator to fix the problem.
I just had mine tuning the 4x4 on by itself on the freeway. Luckily not 4lo. I still don't know the problem. (03 6spd. ) It took many attempts to get it back to 2wd.
I knew the electronic transfer would be the weak point on this truck the day i got it. Mine seems to jump into nutrel when truck it climming a hill and does a quick grind noise then bangs into nutrel.
Its worse than CAD (central axle disconnect) on my old 96.
Them were the good old days with a transfer lever
Mabey i will disconnect the batts and see what happens as that or a scarry reflash by the dealer is always the recomended fix
