Have you done it? What modification is neccasary to the motor mounts or transmission mount? Will the intercooler fit? I am going to put in a billet grill for more room. Any help will help. Thanx
I put a 6BT in my 93 chev 4dr. dually. I made my own motor mounts, used the Dodge intercooler the first time, now have a Spearco custom made under the bumper which made more room for bigger elec. fans. I pulled it for the first time yesterday with my 11,000 lb horse trailer and so far so good. Plan on spending much time solving small but critical problems and doing a lot of fabricating.
Steve R. What kind of critical problems are you concerned with and did the 6bt radiator fit in the gmc? apparently there was a lsize issue or you wouldnt need large electric fans. One last thing was it difficult to fabricate motor mounts. I've done some mechanic work but How difficult. Feel free to email me if you want and by the way Bravo on building the ultimate driving machine. GM with Cummins. By the way Ive got a friend who makes signs if you would like Im going get somthing cool printed about "Body by Chevy heart by Cummins" or something like that. Any ideas? I can get you one if you want. Thanx
Some things I can think of: I moved the ac above the alt to fit the motor between the frame rails which means a new belt pattern, an external voltage regulator (dodge uses the computer for this), an alternating current tap on the alt for your tach signal. Yes it is a very tight fit- I modified the radiator support to move the rad forward enough to get the elec. fans in. I used chevy stock motor mounts directly on the cross-member then made the mounts for the motor to fit them. I think the 1989 or so cummins mounts might be easier to use than doing what I did. I didn't have enough room for the later style mounts. I used the chev 34" rad. , but had it rebuilt with a high-flow, 3 row core. I have a couple of pics if I can figure out how to send them.
