Cab Conversion?

Is there anybody that is running a transgo shift kit junior? What about a TCI torque converter? I know that DTT and BD are the top of the line for the diesel pickups, but money is the catcher here. I can get the converter and kit that are said to do the same thing. Transgo and TCI are said to be pretty good in Drag racing. If anybody is running either of these let me know your thoughts.
thanks

adam , you get what you pay for . i didn't know that TCI had a convertor designed for the diesel market , if its a milled stator like every other TC except for the DTT then it will act only marginaly better than the stock TC and still have that big jump going into lockup .

as far as the transgo kit , it relies to much on the installer and you could end up with an ill shifting trans , a BD or DTT VB is tested before shipment , you know when you put it in that it is going to work , the DTT has the advangtage of having the pressurelok function built for a much smaller cost .

again you can pay now or pay later ...

is the B-D tc a milled stator unit? I see alot of guys on here are using this but you say DTT's is the only one that is not the milled stator. I know DTT's stuff is about as good as you can get, I was just wondering how the B-D tc compared. Anyone using a B-D can jump in on this. Thanks.

I had a "Trans-Go" Shift Kit on my
transmission until it reached 98,000
miles and had very good luck with it.
I would have kept it but I went with
a complete "BD Valve Body" when the
transmission was rebuilt.

First off, the Trans-Go Jr. kit was used for a time by BD however, it was found to be marginal at best... and that's whitewashing over it's drawbacks. Trans-Go then released a newer TC enhancement kit called the TFOD Diesel shift kit. This kit seems to work well however, several transmission places I know of have experienced problems with duplicating results from vehicle to vehicle when modifying the VBs with the TFOD Diesel shift kit. In addition, Bill Kondolay (of DTT) developed the BD modified VB while he was working for BD... BEFORE Trans-Go came out with their TFOD Diesel shift kit, even though there are many similarities.

I had the BD modified VB and it worked very well. I later went to the DTT custom tuned VB and it performed even better, with features the BD VB does not have. The best part about the DTT VB is that it is custom tuned to the selected DTT TC, plus driving, towing habits of the owner, based on customer input (DTT refers to this as a profile).

As for torque converters, there is NO COMPARISON to the DTT TCs, they are simply the best, period. (... and I have driven many of both). The efficiency created by DTT's patented, trick steel stators make the lockup event ho-hum instead of a much anticipated event. Why? The efficiency of their TCs is the secret. With a DTT TC you are transfering much more power to the ground when in fluid coupling... I believe Bill told me that it is actually 40% more than any other TC on the market (including the one BD advertises as being "95% efficient"). As one TDR member reported, before and after G-Tech dyno runs revealed that he gained (actually, gained back) 26 HP based on his DTT TC and VB upgrade. That's impressive!

Why take my word for it, find someone near you that has had a DTT transmission upgrade (TC and VB) and drive it and see for yourself. #ad

I am sure that the DTT stuff is excellent, but depending upon your usage, there are other options that will work fine for a lot less money. I personally use my truck for interstate towing almost exclusively. therefore the most important aspects for me were a lockup clutch that would take the abuse, and a lower stall speed for the lower gears. Dave Goerend has some very nice stuff for a lot less money that will fill the need if your's are similar to mine. Once the convertor goes into lockup, efficiency is irrelevant anyways.

Good luck!

Hi Adam!
As far as Bang for the buck, call Dave Goerend.

This is their web site: http://www.gbtransmissions.com/default.htm

I had a JR kit. DO NOT USE a JR kit. Dave helped me get mine back on track with most of a DIESEL kit with a few changes based on what I use mine for. Nice guy, worth the call.

rbrooks , how are you , long time no see . we have to get together , you obviously haven't driven a DTT TC , its is hands down better than anything else available at the moment , and i don't see anything being better except for a solid lockup mechinism that eliminates the clutch material , but i digress .

you hit the nail on the head as to all convertors are equal when locked , but do you live ON THE INTERSTATE ???? when you put the TRANS IN DRIVE ARE YOU SUDDENLY TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE SPEED ???

getting to that speed is where the DTT convertor shines , and extra thick lockup clutches and heavy billet covers are not a necessity because the effiecency creates less heat and slippage when locking , and HEAT is the NUMBER 1 KILLER of an auto trans ... drop me a line #ad

John said it wonderfully. Bill K's DTT convertor and vb are truely amazing. I recorded the 26 hp increase with my g-tech.

Here is another little annecdote. My daughter is now 15 1/2, so you know driving is a big thing for her. Last summer, she got to drive my ram a little at the lake on vacation. (In the state park when virtually nobody was there). Last week (she now has her learners permit) I picked her up from dance practice to go home. Guess who wanted to drive. We switched places. She did all the proper checks and adjustments for her to see and away we went. The dragstrips record 60 feet times... ... we could have recorded 60 feet comments. Her words were; "What did you do to this thing? WOW this like really GOES!!!!" (I just hate it when every thing is "like", but she is just 15). When we got home she informed my wife that her suburban's family racing title may be in jepordy. I just thought that you might like the story of an inexperienced drivers reaction to the DTT driving feel.

Well all I can say for the trans-go kit is if you are only a marginal mechanic stay away from it. .
I should know lost my transmission last week with only about 15000 miles on the shift kit total miles on transmission is 38,000 no lie. She is dead. .
Talk to Bill Kondolay at DTT he knows his stuff and is a great help!!

And if you read this Bill thanks a millon, all is going good in the rebuild!!!!

I have a Trans-Go TFOD kit and I agree that it is not an easy install for someone who is not a trans expert. It can be set up to do a lot of things IF you know what you are doing. The guy at the trans shop where I had my TC and Trans Go kit installed said it was "Humbug" to do. He had done about five of them before mine. I got my TC and shift kit installed for a bargain price... $250. 00. He did tell me that he underbid my install.

Just put the Trans-Go kit in my transmission, TC clutch was slipping bad before, it does not slip now. Gotta pay attention to detail and adjust line pressure properly after install.
