I'm ready to have my transmission serviced before towing season. I've found a highly recommended shop in the area where the guys themselves drive CTD's. They seem to really know their stuff. Talking with them helped convince me to have a valve body installed. They install TransGo valve bodies. I asked about using other brands (DTT), but they said they would highly recommend sticking with this brand because of their success with them.

Has anybody had experience with these?

What makes one valve body better than another?

They are going to charge me $400 to do the install, including the regular service stuff (filter/fluid/adjustments). I don't know enough about a transmission to tackle this one myself. The price seemed real good to me. Any thoughts?

Talk to most shops and 95% of them will tell you theirs is better. If you want to get a real opinion ask here. Give Bill Kondolay a call. When I purchase products I look at two things. 1 is the actual product. 2 customer service. Bill and his crew is top notch! www.dieseltrans.com/DTTech/index. sht

boonsur , they are not going to be installing a trans go valvebody , they will be installing a transgo TFOD Diesel shift kit . they probably have good sucess with it and since they don't pay much for it , its makes them a good buck . what you need to do is drive one of their trucks that supposedly has one installed , ask what they set the line pressure at , do they reccomend changing the forward band apply lever , will they swap in a heavy duty strut for the forward band as the stock one can bend ??? the line pressure will have a huge effect on driveability and if its set to high it will cause it to shift very harsh .

yes you will spend more money initally with a VB from another source , but it will have been tested after assembly and pressures and shift points set , put it in , make a couple of minor adjustments and away you go .

i have a DTT VB and TC , i did alot of reasearch because i only wanted to do it once , DTT has the best setup in my mind .

What is the difference between the "shift-kit" and a valve body. I thought a valve body increased line pressure also. Or, does it do it intermittently? Does the DTT kit come with these new HD parts, or does it not require them, because of the way it functions? What should I tell a shop about the kit, is it just the VB, or what?

Is there a shop in the Great Lakes area that has done a lot of DTT installs? What does an average install cost? Can a novice like myself do something like this, or would that result in bringing a bunch of parts to a shop to put back together. Traveling to the "other" west coast is not an option right now.

The shop you are talking to will install a kit in your valvebody. I have a TransGo kit in my truck now. It works well, but a bit harsh as they run their pressures higher than DTT. I am the DTT dealer and installer in TX. and am going to build me a DTT valvebody for my truck. After quite a few installs I like the driveability and feel of the DTT better. The stronger band strut, and the addition of the 4. 2 band lever(dealer item)is also a plus. A DTT converter really finishes the package. Something I see consistently after the DTT install is the big grin on the first test drive. #ad

After E-Mailing Bill Kondolay(DTT) and getting his views on a Shift-Kit(which he could sell me) vs an 'custom' valvebody built specifically for my truck, I am very pleased I chose the latter!
My Y2k 3500 now shifts like it should of stock.

I finally talked to Bill K. yesterday afternoon. He made some pretty convincing points, especially about the benefits of his torque converters. I just don't think I can spend the money right now to go all the way. I'm going to try "limping-by" with just a valve body until the (spare) money situation improves.

I have been convinced that Bill's is the right direction to go. He is sending me a copy of the instructions, so I can see if this is something I want to do myself. At least I can talk more intelligently if I decide to have a transmission shop do the labor.

I agree, anybody considering should talk to Bill K. !!!
