Does the band need to be adjusted?

If so what torque spec?

Amount off turns backed off?

The linkage connecting to the throttle shaft:

What is the proper adjustment on that?

I am about to install the B&M deep pan. (aluminum)

B&M transmission temp guage

B&M Transpak shift kit

Has anybody tried the B&M shiftkit?

I am getting these products free, just curious if anybody has tried them.

Throttle rod/TV Cable adjustment;

Verify throttle lever is seated against low idle stop screw/accelerator pedal fully released. Check clearance between rear of cable actuating pin and end of slot in TV cable. Clearance should be . 180 inch. (you can fabricate a gauge from thin steel stock)

This adjustment can be taylored a small amout to suite your needs. Don't get too carfried away from the specs. It's best to modify internals than with this adjustment.

Front Band;

Loosen lock nut and turn out adjuster screw 4 times. (make for certain this screw is free to turn) Lube the threads. Tighten screw to 72 inch pounds. Back off screw 2. 5 turns and secure the lock nut.

Rear Band;

Same. However the screw is backed off 2 turns only.

Thank you for the response, when my throttle is at rest on the stop screw, there is no gap in between the actuater pin and the TV cable slot, Because the return spring is pulling it all the way forward. Is this normal or am I misunderstanding you?

I have got to find a FSM!!

Does this affect shifting firmness and quickness?

I now it plays a part in the GM 700R4 trans.

My truck just kind of slides into the next gear and pauses on the shift just a bit, but if I am at WOT it does much better. Just trying to make sure truck is all tuned up and correct before I start adding parts and power. Trying to establish a good baseline.

With the Auto you need... . HAVE to make for certain that thing is in good order. I'm not talking about installing billet shafts and a tripple lock. I mean simply make sure it's tuned up.

The TV cable adjustment will do as you describe. That long slot is the adjustment you'll be looking at. There nedds to be a gap between the slot and the pin that is located on the throttle cam. You can adjust it one way or another from the book specs. I have done so and it will make a big difference in shift points and quality. Don't get too carried away with it. If you modify the trans do so internally on the valve body.

The throttle cam will move a small amount prior to the pin making contact with the end of the slot. If you have no gap you need adjustment. Flip up the cam lock lever on the cable and slide the cable one way or another. Then lock down the lever. I think the lever is white plastic.

Grenleaf can I assume the band specs are the same for a 727 since they are essentially the same trans. I just adjusted mine but no difference. The specs I was told were different then what you said, so maybe I will try it again using your specs.

They are the same. In fact my FSM states that ALL the transmissions are the same, or something to that effect. I'd have to re-read that page to quote it properly. It does give a differnt spec on the Diesel application I think it was. Some are backed off 2. 5 turns (like for a gasser unit perhaps?) and the others are 2 turns.

Yep, I researched this well cause I have both models of trannies. That's why it was still fresh in my mind. I just serviced my 727.

Where yall are talking about adjustments on the valve body, what adjustments are you making? Is it line pressure, shift firmness or what? How is it done? If it is something simple that helps preserve the transmission, I want to do it. Our trucks stay loaded heavy all the time. The engines are stock on the auto/od, '92 and '93 trucks and the miles range from about 80,000 to 140,000. The transmissions are also stock, except for the use of synthetic (Amsoil) oil. I am looking for reliability and durability with a constant load these trucks always carry. Any adjustments to the valve body yall can recommend while we have the pan off doing oil change and band adjustment would be a great help! Thanks, John

Fred could help you out there. I only know that the pressure is turned up a tad. There are several adjustments to the valve body that "could" be made. I don't know enough about that part to say one way or another.

The adjustments we are mentioning are bands and TV cable adjustment.
