I have 50k miles on my truck now. I had the transmission fluid and filter replaced once so far and the bands (whatever they are) adjusted. I refuse to let the dealer near my truck so I am gonna do it myself. How often does this need to be done and what is this business of adjusting bands? DO I have to do this every time I replace the filter and fluid? Should I refill the transmission (its an auto) with the MOPAR fluid again? I have never replaced the fluid in the axles yet (4X4). I assume any 80W90 gear oil is sufficient or should I get the MOPAR stuff for this?

OK let me get this straight. The dealer has knowledge and experience that you lack and you are going to adjust your trans bands because you think they'll mess up your truck.

Bands are brakes for transmission drums, there are two. A low/reverse band used in manual low and reverse (low gear in drive uses a one way roller clutch only) and a "kick down" or second gear band the adjustment procedure is in the service manual. A novice should not attempt to work on his vehicle without a service manual for guidance. Good luck.

Ditto to above. I just went with a DDT Valve Body with my DD2's and an 'EZ. ' But my Auto went 'south!'

I could have save a couple of thousand dollars had I had a DTT TC installed at the same time. Oh well, live and learn.

Anyway, I had my transmission completely rebuilt with DTT parts for several thousand dollars but it's worth it. The new 2003 Duramax and the new 2003 Ford have more stock power and torque than our stock Cummins, but with our DTT trannys, there's no comparison!
