Anyone ever had your transmission just act like it comes out of gear while sitting still, it acts like it's spinning then it grabs a second after the R's come up? Fluid level is fine but I'll check it again.

Mine done the same thing after the dealer installed my new transmission under warrenty. I found that the fluid level was fine when checking the level in neutral. I then set parking brake and checked it with it in drive while idling. Then i added another two quarts and it has not done that since. I have never had a problem running my trans "over full" as some may call it. I have ran it this way for about 30,000 miles.

I also heard of trying this way.

Warm up transmission by driveing at least 8 miles, then on level surface put on emergency brake, chock the wheels, then put truck in all the gears then back to Drive and check oil level, if low add to full mark. Can not remember whos idea this is but it was from a reputable transmission person.

OOPPs I see someone snuck in before me while I was typeing.

If it was my truck I would never over fill the transmission. It will eventually cause transmission problems. Also if your transmission is overfilled that could be the problem (air bubbles in fluid).

The owner's manual says put it DRIVE THEN REVERSE AND CHECK IT IN NEUTRAL. It also says check it in neutral on the dipstick.

I know a guy that is a Transmission consultant, master tech. etc. etc. has all the credits behind his name and he claims that you can not hurt your automatic transmission by over filling it. Even to the point that it would come out the filler tube (other then it making a mess. Don't get me wrong I am not over filling mine but, based on his "expertise" it is not a problem. Thats what I was told for what that is worth :D

I've read the same thing in an auto mech trade magazine.

They even sited a case where the aftermarket fix for the Taurus's auto transmission is to weld an anti-slop wall in the transmission pan and overfill it by 1 quart. Seems ford tried to skimp on capacity and the pickup can be starved during cornering. !!!!

The article went on to say that the older fluid would have problems when the transmission was overfilled, but today's fluids dont suffer the same problem and the type (as we all know here) is the most important issue next to not running the fluid too low.
