trans line

Checked my lines found the oil cooler line with slight wear thought the steel water line was toast remaved all the stuff to get at it, lucky day it turned out that there was a paint nub right there, the center of it was gone, felt like a hole sanded it off painted done! 4x2 truck first look the lines were about 1" apart still check them trans line did have a slight rub mark. If you go back to the original thread some posted a part number for a rubber hose to replace metal pipe from Dodge.
 
I got a good look at my torque converter cooler. The lower left coolant connection is a formed hose from the cooler to the engine block. No steel line. It all looks good.
 
I have an 06 2WD 3500. Am trying to figure this out. Are you guys talking about the 2 metal lines that run together , side by side, 1/2 way back between the Radiator cooler and transmission cooler or way back at the transmission cooler (which so far I cant see) itself.
 
Back at the transmission cooler itself. It is where one engine coolant line goes around the forward transmission cooler line on the cooler itself.



Go back to post #6 of this thread, where they touch is where I have added the bright blue hose for protection. That view is back by the firewall on the left hand side of the truck with the inner fender and tire removed.

mwilson, thanks, I found it. On mine it looks like the metal line passes over a rubber line. The line that comes out of the cooler on the top left looks to be a black rubber line with an almost 180 degree turn. On the picture in #6 there looks like a clamp or something under the metal line?? They don't appear to touch. Was your line rubber or is it black metal?



I can't get under my truck without lifting it, its a 2WD with step rails, so until I can rase it my ability to get a clear picture is hendered.

Thanks. I checked mine at 97000 miles. No wear anywhere I could find. All the lines to the cooler are held in place with fasteners. I did have some black marks where the two aluminum tubes cross about halfway back from the cooler. Black marks but no wear. I added a rubber sleeve to keep them apart as they were touching. These are very easy to see from topside and to get at. Then, again at the starter one line is within an eighth inch from the starter but no wear. The line really is too close for comfort so I added a sleeve between it and the starter as well. I wonder if there is a kit that has hydraulic lines already made for the correct length and with the fittings. Might be a good investment in the long run.

On my truck the forward water line was metal. I think at some point mid-year of '06 they changed to the all rubber water line. That all rubber line does not shake, rattle and roll at idle like the metal one does. :)

Yeah, the "cooler" lines on the engine have been replaced on our 03. Total pain to get too. I remember replacing a couple plastic spacer things too on a couple lines that rubbed through. The ATF shower started around 98,000 miles I think. Ended up replacing a few items that looked suspect from rubbing. I also remember the parts prices varied wildly from various vendors. The lines were not cheap at all.

Just checked mine and they are fine, but will put some tubing around them so nothing will happen in the future. While I was down there I noticed that the plastic clamp that keeps the two transmission lines separated right by the starter had slipped down about 3/4" and one line was about 1/8" from starter:eek: so pushed it back up so clamp rested on starter. Will fix that also when I get back ther to do the other. Have 78K on the rig.
