I just ordered a #8 TST plate for my 2500 97'and all the guages. I pull a 24" TT that weighs about 8000 lb. s loaded. I am planing to travel to Yellowstone from Long Island at the end of July and I'm wondering if I should replace the stock transmission cooler. I know I have the plastic quick connects that need to be replaced and I think I will locate the temp probe in the metal line that runs to the cooler with a compression tee. I have read many different posts about the cooler, and the lines, and need to know which is the best way to go. I also plan to switch to synthetic ATF. Do I need a deep pan also?? Any suggestions??? I just don't want to get stuck on my vacation.

Definitely replace the fittings on the cooler, the cooler should be fine. As for the pan, if you can swing it, it would be a good opportunity to install. You can make it without the deep pan with the load you are towing and pass a few power strokes too. bg

LI Camper;

Dodge makes an auxiliary transmission
cooler that mounts behind the cab on
the frame, drivers side. As I recall
they run about $300. 00 and are supposed
to work real well. They are controlled
by a thermostat that can be set to
run "automatically" at a set temperature
or manual from a switch on the dash.

To L I Camper: Since your post did not show an email address I wanted you to have this info. BD makes a auxiliary transmission cooler with a fan and lines that comes on and off when needed. Worked great on my automatic.

Ok, maybe I'm lost but are the plastic parts on the transmission or on the lines that connect to the aux cooler by the radiator?? I definitely see plastic on the quick connects up front but at the transmission I see regular compression stuff or flares (I didn't take it apart). #ad

My '95 had quick release near the transmission itself. I don't know the '97 specs. You may have compression fittings at the transmission, but I don't know of a simple replacement for the cooler ends of the lines. I replaced all of the lines and fittings. Not cheap, but I feel better!

Mine had the plastic p. o. s. connectors up on the oil to water cooler on the passenger side of the block. You could get little hose clamps and put them on eack side of the connocter and tie wire them together, also.
