Has anybody ever tried to put a small 7" or 8" 800-1000cfm electric fan mounted on the factory front transmission cooler to help keep temp's in check. I thought this would be easier to do then adding a aux. cooler under bed, but didn't know if it was a waste of time, this is on a 12v automatic pulling truck. I want to try to keep temps lower when spooling up, it seems know transmission fluid smells burnt after 4 pulls and temps are 220-240 at end of track.

I didn't, not sure if my transmission guy did, I only get real hot when I'm sitting at the line trying to spool with no air going across anything, at the end of the pull it's way to hot around 220-240.

Travis...

A custom built transmission will build more heat than a stocker for sure. Anyway you can cool it will help it for longevity..... Andy

I bought an aftermarket cooler with fan and mounted it under the bed on the driver's side. I cut the return line just before it goes into the transmission and had hoses made up to run from there to the cooler and back. Pretty easy to mount the cooler there and running the hoses was easy too. This way you can put in as big a cooler as you want.

Trans cooler

This is the trans cooler I used on My Dakota BMRacing . It is the only cooler I am running because I dont run thru the radiator and I have never seen the temps go over 200 deg. I recommend it highly. It comes on at 175 deg.

travis, i did put a small fan on my stock cooler, it did help some but i havent put it back on since i took the stock heat exchanger off (may want to try that) when we put my twins on. my temps def go up slower since it is never in contact with hot coolant. maybei will stick it on here tonight and try it out. i just had it on a sep. switch and turned it on when i was sitting in traffic. it will def move some serious air and has to help a bit.
