transmission dip stick seating

My transmission dip stick will not stay seated. You push it in and let go and it backs out about 3/4 of an inch. Does anyone have a clue and cure for this problem. I am concerned that dirt (etc. ) will get down into the transmission if I can't keep the dip stick seated.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Dipstick?

Bob what most have done is cut a little off the bottom of the stick. I cut about a quarter inch off mine and it helped but I think I should have cut a little more.

I had the same problem till I put on the Mag-Hytec DD trans pan. Plus the trans pan is predrilled for a thermocouple (which I dont use... . wrong place... IMO) and drain plug. Plus you get about an extra gallon of ATF for protection.



Cutting the dipstick off is the cheapest way.



Buying the Mag-Hytec DD trans pan is the bombers way.
