My transmission dipstick will work it's way out (about one inch, then it stops). Is there any good way to fix this other than 24" of a good quality oil resistant tape?

I believe this is because the dipstick is too long and "springs" its way out. But, I thought that was on older trucks. Maybe someone can answer that.

The solution is to cut-off stock from the tip. Couldn't hurt to try.

Mine does the same thing. I made the dealer put in a new dipstick, and it still slides up. No ATF is leaking around it, so I gave up on it.

My dip stick did the same thing too. When the deep Mag Hy-tec trans pan was installed you could see the worn mark on the bottom of the stock pan! With the new pan the stick stays where it's supposed to. :D

There was a TSB on this I recall for a 98. 5. The replacement stick was no better and it too bottomed out. Dealer then trimmed about 1/8" off the stick. I had them record this on the work order and it has been fine ever since. I too went to the Mag-Hytec pan later on.

Dipstick

Mine did the same thing, and I read some posts where the guys were cutting about a quarter of an inch off the end of the stick. This seems to work ok for me. :D

trim an 1/8 th" at a time till it does not bottom out. The level is measured from the top of the dipstick tube not from the bottom of the pan.

Maybe the older Rams had to long a dipstick but the newer ones do not. It is vibration causing the stick to move out and than stops when the o-ring touches the top of the tube. Hold the tube from shaking and the dipstick will not move up at all.
