I've noticed that the fluid level reads differently on both sides of the dipstick. It's about 3/4 of an inch different from front to back. I check the level with the trans in neutral, like the dipstick says to. The reading is different depending on whether the writing (on the handle) is right-side up or upside down. I attributed this to the flow of the fluid, since it's in neutral. Is that right?

Tim,first thing you need to do is check if your dipstick is too long, most are. You will be able to tell by inserting it till it bottoms in the pan,if it has a little way to go before the handle seats fully in the tube it's too long. Most folks have cut off 1/4 inch or bent the last 1/4" to make it fit. Whether it makes it read different,I've never checked, but it does keep it from popping out on it's own. You and me have the same truck, mine was too long.
